Name: John Thomas Waterhouse
-
Age: 32
-
Gender: Male
-
Species: Human
-
Position: CMO/Other Medic
-
Height: 6'2"
-
Weight: 140lbs
-
Hair Color: Sandy/Blonde
--
Appearance: Tall and thin due to growing up on Mars, not particularly physically strong but with of a good sense of balance and fast reactions that make speed not brute force his strong suit. He is normally slightly rumpled and tends to wear a long lab jacket in medical blue over his uniform, the pockets of which are weighed down with small items, often absently dropped into a pocket after use.
--
Personality: John is a fairly loud and outgoing man, not afraid of a bit of rough and tumble or a good argument, John can be snappy and quick to anger but doesn't hold grudges and has often forgotten whatever caused an outburst before it has even finished. He will often chew problems or choices over for days before acting if allowed the time but can make snap calls if pushed, although these tend to be subject to "buyers remorse" immediately afterwards.
--
Strengths: Methodical, careful and tenacious with problems, a loyal friend and a forgetful enemy.
-
Weaknesses: Can be slow to act and appear absent minded.
--
Ambitions: To get out and see the universe, his naturally cautious nature having kept him at home too long.
--
Hobbies and Interests: John is fascinated by History - both of his native Mars and the wider Federation and galaxy.
He is a reasonably good fencer, having picked up several styles of sword play as an aside to his history learning and finding the sport helps him focus and forces more rapid decision making.
He is tinkering in his spare time with building functioning examples of old/ancient equipment, the current project being a small scale model of a Martian lander c2100.
--
Languages: Federation Standard (English?), Latin, Martian colonies dialect, just about understandable in Vulcan.
--
Family:
Father - Peter Waterhouse (69)
Mother - Samantha Waterhouse (deceased)

Sister - Christine Armitage (35)
Brother-in-law - David Armitage (36)
Neice - Sarah Armitage (3)

Uncle (Mother's side) David Waterhouse (61)
--
History:

John Waterhouse grew up in the long established Utopia colony on Mars, born to Peter and Samantha in 2354 as their second child after his older sister Christine. Peter worked as an engineer in the colony, maintaining the ground based transporter network, and Samantha was a botanist.

Samantha and Peter split up fairly amicably when he was 6 and John grew up moving between both parents as he, or they, required.

As a schoolboy he was obviously intelligent but somewhat aimless and never really excelled in any one subject but posted broadly good results in most. Christine was obviously destined for an engineering job on Mars and the pressure for John to chose a direction in his life grew until during a long walk his uncle David finally drew out of the teenage John a desire to "see the universe" and somehow to use his "interest in living things".

With some prompting from his parents and uncle he focused on science and biological subjects at school and this culminated in an application to the Starfleet Academy biological sciences program with a minor in comparative anatomy. Rapidly realising that classification and assessment was not actually what he wanted John transferred after nearly a year of consideration to the Starfleet Medical Academy and trained as a doctor.

Graduating high in the Class of 2379 - but with little idea of what to do next the freshly qualified Dr Waterhouse was assigned to the USS Fife as others with more drive took the best postings.

The Fife was involved in a long range survey and patrol for 3 years during which she could go weeks without encountering another vessel, treating the minor ailments of the crew didn't inspire the young doctor and he found himself often wondering if he had made the correct choices.

John received a posting back to Mars at his own request joining the medical staff at the Utopia Fleet Yards - a busy hub of Fleet construction. The reason for the request being the death of his mother and birth of a daughter -Sarah- to his sister Christine in the previous year. Back home with his family John considered leaving Starfleet but in 2384 he was posted back to a Starship this time the ageing USS Nightingale and reluctantly left Mars.

Nightingale was operating on general medical duties, providing support to the fleet and aiding in disaster relief across several sectors. Having served with distinction during some fairly harrowing times, and rediscovered his love for space, he also found that shipboard life could be anything but boring John received good reports and recommendations from the CMO of the Nightingale. He has eagerly requested another space going posting when Nightingale returned to space dock for overhaul, or it is quietly being suggested, decommissioning in 2386.
