Season 1, Earth Mission: Advanced Marine Training

A week after arriving on Earth, Jasmine was due to parade 125 Marines, but first she had to meet her New XO. So using a borrowed office she sat behind a desk and looked at the Padd on the new Officer, when the door chime sounded.

"Enter" she said.

Returning the Salute "At ease Lieutenant, please take a seat" She said. "Now tell me a little about yourself, mainly your Marine Specialities, what are you trained for specifically?" She asked.

She listened as the young Lieutenant spoke.

The two weeks leave went faster than David thought it would. That wasn't all that bad, he would be in his first detachment abord a starship. He stepped up to the door of the office where his new CO was temporarily located and waited for a response inside.

"Enter" she said

Briskly moving into the the office he stood at attention and saluted the major behind the desk, "1st Lieutenant David Tavel reporting for duty sir."

Returning the Salute "At ease Lieutenant, please take a seat" She said. "Now tell me a little about yourself, mainly your Marine Specialities, what are you trained for specifically?" She asked.

Sitting in the chair David launched into his qualifications, "Well sir, besides my regular marine training, I am specialised in several areas. I have completed command and basic first aid training. I have exstensive training in hand-to-hand combat including basic in starfleet, krav maga, and blade training by an apache on earth, who as you might know were the some of the greatest knife fighters on earth. My other major qualifications include sniping, reconnaissance, land navigation and tracking. As you might know I am especially familiar with forested and arctic terrain."

What she heard impressed her greatly.

oO Not bad Oo She thought, "so Lieutenant Tavel, do you know why the USS Invincible Marines are here on Earth?" After a pause, do you have a nickname, something you have been called?" She asked, "My Nickname became my Callsign when I transferred over to Marines. Your Nickname will become your callsign too. It makes it harder for any any enemy listening in to know your name and such, the nickname that has become my callsign is Bloodrayne, this is due to the colour of my hair and my pale complextion" She said with a smile.

"We are here to concentrate on specialized training, mainly Recon/Demo/Bomb disposal/Infiltration & Extraction and Sniper training. I will split us into groups, two Squads, you will command the other Squad Lieutenant Tavel. Both teams will do the same. But only one of us will specialize in Sniper duties only. It will be 61 men not including you, I will have the same. The 125th Marine will be trained in Sniper dutiues only and the application of sniping. the rest of us poor slugs get specialized Generic training. I will announce more on Parade, do you have any questions Lieutenant?" She asked.

"I Imagine we are here for futher training sir. I have been called Bulldog in the past sir, partly because of my build, and partly because of my tenancity. The name will do just fine."

“I do have a few questions, such what will the duration of the training be, and what suggestions you my have for my assignment. Besides that Nothing else, besides what is considered standard operating procedure for this detachment.”

Sitting back inhaling, “The duration is open for now, as in we got no time limit on training. As for suggestions, like me Lieutenant you will be given further training the areas I have said, the standard operating procedure of this Unit is ongoing, as I have not been in command long and I am still working out the finer details. But one rule we do have is we leave no one behind, not even Fleet personnel as in non-Marines. Most of the time when on the Invincible, we will have Ships Security personnel with some of us, if they or one us go down we take them with us, dead or alive. Anymore questions?” She asked.

“Okay then, I want you to get the Marines on Parade, I will be out shortly” She said, indicating the meeting was over.

She watched the Lieutenant leave and when the door closed “this is going to be an interesting time” She said to herself and put everything tidy and with Padd in hand she left the office.

"No sir, that is perfecly clear."

{“Okay then, I want you to get the Marines on Parade, I will be out shortly” She said, indicating the meeting was over.}

"yes sir," he said standing to his feet. David then turned and left the office to find the parade ground. Not knowing what to make of his new CO, he decided he would have to wait to find that out. For now he had a duty to carry out, he briskly walked to the Parade ground to assemble the men.

After gathering some needed items she neared the Parade square and saw Lieutenant Tavel with the Marines, walking over to them she shouted an order, somewhat loudly taking the marines by surprise.

“ATT...ENTION” She shouted in a clear and crisp manner.

Standing at the front and facing them, she looked them over and felt pride swell, but she had to remember this was the Marines not Fleet.

“Till now I have not had the option of properly introducing myself, some of you have met me; few have actually gone on an away mission with me. But now we can do the proper introductions. I am Major Jasmine Somers, as some of you know your new CO, for those replacements greeting” She said with a smile. “I am a fair in my discipline and how I run my Unit, but you screw up just one iota and you shall all see my temper, I hope we will become a close knit unit. Now unlike most of you I did not start out as a Marine, I was a Fleet Officer at the rank of Lieutenant Commander on my last posting. I transferred over to Marines so I could serve on the Invincible. So I know the limits of what we marines can do on a ship.”

She paused as she inhaled.

“Now we are here to train in the following Recon/Demo/Bomb disposal/Infiltration & Extraction and Sniper training, now only the best shot will specialise in Sniping, rank on this does not matter, from 2nd Lieutenant on down. The rest of us will train in what I have said, when we are done, we will be more valuable to the Invincible. When we have out sniper, the rest of us will split into Detachments. I will be commanding Alpha, Lieutenant Tavel Bravo. Out of these detachments will be squads, squad designations will be assigned at a later date, unlike most Officers I do not ask anyone to do something I would not do myself, our mantra from this point on is Leave no one behind, this includes the Fleet crew on the Invincible when we return”

Another pause.

“Okay people fall out, remove your tunics and undershirts then form up in three rows” Jasmine said and also stripped down to her Marine issue vest as did the rest, when they were back in formation she saw the surprise on their faces. “Yes I was serious about doing the same as you. Right face.”

As she gave the order the marines turned to the right, as this was going on, she put her hair in to a ponytail.

“Okay start off at ten laps around this parade square” She said “Detachment by the right Quick March” She gave the order and the marines began to march, smartly she was surprised, “Double time” She ordered as the detachment began their first lap, Lieutenant Tavel Sound off” She said.

OOC: What I mean by this, is like a rhythm tune Marines used to sing when in training e.g “sound off One two, three four, one two” This type of thing or just a tune to help the unit keep the same pace.

Arriving on the parade ground, Tavel Mingled with the seargents who would be working under him when suddenly...

“ATT...ENTION” Major Somers shouted unexpectedly

As the detatchment Assembled into neat rows, David took his place to the side and slightly behind Somers.


“Okay start off at ten laps around this parade square” She said “Detachment by the right Quick March” She gave the order and the marines began to march, smartly she was surprised, “Double time” She ordered as the detachment began their first lap, Lieutenant Tavel Sound off” She said.

As somers took the lead David followed behind and began a song with the marines repeating every line as they ran,

Issue my rifle to another Marine,
It served me well and I know it's clean

The ten lap warm up was easy for a man who had training as a sniper, but not for the rest of the men. But David knew the new co wouldn't take it easy when it came to training her men, that was good because soft commanders get their men killed.

Jasmine was impressed with the tune and found that she was out of shape a little, this surprised here but as they arrived at the spot they started on it was the end of the tenth lap.

“Detachment HALT” She said and all came to a stop.

Turning to face them.

“Drop and give me twenty push-ups” Jasmine said and followed suit, she was leading by example, she saw all the Marines doing this.

Twenty push-ups later all stood, all were sweating. “Okay people gather up your tunics and undershirts and grab you a shower. Report back here 0600 hours in combat gear and a ten pounds pack on your back, we shall be doing a forced march. A shuttle will pick us up and take us to the Brecon Beacons, most of you have been on a ship too long, tomorrow we start training. DIS… MISSED” She said and watch the marines leave.

Jasmine also went to take a shower and relax a little, that night she had a dreamless sleep.

0600 hours – Next day

Jasmine was waiting as the Marines boarded two troops shuttles, she was one of the last to get on, when the ramp closed the shuttles lifted off. As they landed at the Brecon Beacons all disembarked the shuttles and formed up in three rows.

“Okay while there is no set time limit, the average time lap is clocked at 20 minutes for the whole course, so RIGHT FACE, Double time” she ordered as the Marines obeyed and all began running Jasmine along with them.

It was a difficult course, but being from this area Jasmine knew it well, still like most of the marines she was finding it a little exhausting. As they reached their starting point “HALT” She ordered and checked her stop-watch.

“Well Lieutenant we only just broke the record *puff* *pant* 20 minutes was the Par, we did it in 19.95 minutes” She said to her XO, then looked at the rest. “Well done men we beat the Par score” She said and all either cheered or smiled.

“I was the one who did the first 20 minute run, back when I was only 16, out detachment has beaten that” She said with a smile.

“Okay men take a break you have earned it” She said as all took off their packs and sat down.

Looking at Tavel “so tell me Lieutenant what is your preliminary assessment my leadership so far?” She said, saw his hesitation “its okay to speak your mind Lieutenant, I cannot have an XO who will not speak their mind when its required” She said with a smile.

She may not have been the best commander David had ever run across, but she trained her men hard and led from the front, which meant she wasn't afraid. She also seemed competent enough, that is all you can really ask for in a CO. After a good nights sleep he awoke early to check his gear. After suiting up David straped a tomahawk to his pack, a combat knife that was accesible running down from his shoulder, and several more throwing knives in various locations. Although they were not standard issue they came in handy when stealth was needed, or modern weapons were unavailable or rendered unusable. Although this was not actual combat he straped on a phaser 2 and took a phaser rifle, both of which were empty of power packs. His preperations complete, David went to the shuttles and the days mission.

The run wasn't that bad for David, but he had not been out of training that long either. "I think this is just what the men needed sir, how was our time?"

"If I had any doubts about the fitness of these men I don't now."

{“I was the one who did the first 20 minute run, back when I was only 16, out detachment has beaten that” She said with a smile.}

"And now 17 years later here you are setting the record again, quite amazing actually."

{“Okay men take a break you have earned it” She said as all took off their packs and sat down.}

Brecon Beacons 1200 hours

Jasmine watched her XO put his pack down before he spoke.

“Well, you train your men hard, that usually keeps them alive longer; and you’re not afraid to lead your men form the front which inspires them and makes you popular with them. But you never really know what to think until you've seen someone lead in combat.”

“True I have been in combat, so I am not totally new to it” She said and looked up as two shuttles landed. “Okay people get on board the shuttles, also everyone has a day off tomorrow, so sleep in if you wish; get drunk tonight if you wish. From the moment we touch down at the Marine Training base you are on leave till the day after tomorrow” She said and saw the men’s faces light up a little as she too got onto the shuttle.

Starfleet Marine Advanced Training Camp 1430 hrs

The moment the shuttles touched down and the ramps fully lowered the Marines had quickly left, she herself returned to her base quarters and had a shower and put on a clean uniform, she looked wistfully at here Mustard colour uniform hanging in her closet, that was then, this was now, she fastened her tunic closed and went to the bases holodeck.

Unlike Starbase or ship holodecks, the ones at the Marine training facility were huge, sitting down at a retractable terminal Jasmine got to work in creating a scenario for her Marines to train in.

OOC: Chief During this short time your Character is on leave so if you wish to put a separate post up for character development, please do so, as most of this is solo.

It was two hours later when the program was complete and she activated it and walked the corridors of her creation, she pulled out a Padd and typed some changes into it and they happened in the Holodeck.

“Arch” She said and the door arch appeared. “Computer save and end Somers Theta1Alpha” She said and the familiar holodeck grid retuned as she exited the room.

Private quarters 1700 hrs

Jasmine entered her quarters changed into civilian clothes, then went to a local Café for something to eat.

“True I have been in combat, so I am not totally new to it” She said and looked up as two shuttles landed. “Okay people get on board the shuttles, also everyone has a day off tomorrow, so sleep in if you wish; get drunk tonight if you wish. From the moment we touch down at the Marine Training base you are on leave till the day after tomorrow”

"telling her men to sleep in and get drunk if they want, first time I've seen that," David muttered to himself. Oh well he thought, as long as she did her job. He had made it a point never to consume alchohol, not only was it bad for your health, but it also slowed down reaction time, which could very well get you killed. He kept himself ready to deal with any situation any time of the day, the bad guys never take a day off. Everydody has their idiosyncrasies he thought as he returned to his quarters. The next order of business was to completely familiarize himself with those under his command. David had partly went over their files, but he pulled them all up as well as any infromation on the crew and ship he would soon be serving on. Studying the technical schematics could come in handy as well, not to mention brushing up on his explosives. Although he had been working on some of this for a few days, he had some work ahead of him.

After several hours of burying himself in the files, it was beggining to take it's toll. Deciding a bit more physical activity would make him feel better, David went to the holodeck to practice his hand-to-hand combat, somehow it always helped him. Having created the simulation, he strode in with confidence and said, "computer, start program.

A roundhouse came to his left and with one motion he grabed the leg and forced his opponent to the ground with a quick follow up kill strike. The metal flashed from a knife thrust as David executed a wrist lock, swung the arm around driving the knife into his attackers throat. A choke was attempted but several brutal elbow strikes was enough to allow escape and a stream of blows that finished that opponent as well. As two more advanced he naturally flowed to the first one with a strike to the eyes to blind him and then throwing him into the second moved to a third. Grappling a hand that tried to punch him he used his opposite elbow to break the jaw, grabing his head he twisted him to the ground and followed with a boot strike. A fist launched into Davids face with a kick to his legs left him on the ground. However, as the man tried to finish David he grabbed his wrist, and using his legs flipped him to the ground while holding his arm in a leg lock. very little force was needed to break the arm and finish the last opponent. "Computer, end program," David ordered as he stood to his feet. Yes the session certainly had helped.

He was the equivilant of a 2nd Dan in Krav Maga, a fast brutal and efficient form of self defense. He particulary liked it because unlike other martial arts, it was learned rather quickly, and provided a defense against many possible attacks, was useful against multiple opponents, and not to mention you usually don't have to worry about an opponent getting back up. That was enough for today though, he would get some sleep before his day of leave. It was strange, to have leave but spending that time on things related to his duties, he really dind't have much of a social life. Perhaps thats why he went into the marines, all he seemed to think about was his duties or his constant self training. He hadn't had much of a family, only his father and mother and uncle Ray. Ray wasn't really his uncle, but they had been very close. It was from him he learned all of his skills related to the wilderness of planets, how to survive, navigate, and stalk.

Perhaps he would head into town tommorow, but for tonight, he could certainly use the rest.

Restaurant Sisko’s Restaurant San Francisco 1000 hours Next day

Jasmine was enjoying her time on earth she had to admit, she had always liked Creole cuisine so found herself at the Restaurant it was run by the descendant of Jake Sisko but the meal was great. After paying for her meal she wandered the streets and day dreamed as she walked.

1100hrs

She visited Paris Island where the US Navy Seals used to train; it was now used by Starfleet Marine Corps for basic training and Special Operations duties. The Head Marine recognising Jasmine from her brief time offered her the option to do the assault course, remembering the course had her agreeing to it. She quickly dressed into Combat slacks and lined up, as she was putting her hair into a Pony tail another Marine also lined up.

“Hello I am Second Lieutenant Jimmy Smith” He said then with some resignation “I got to do this in under 11 Minutes, if I am to be allowed a posting away from Earth” He said with a friendly smile.

oO A talkative one this is Oo She thought to herself, putting her arms at her sides, she turned to face him. “I have done this in 10:48 minutes, tell you what Jimmy, if you can keep up with me you should pass this course, ok?” She responded.

Looking at the Red head she looked familiar “may I ask who you are?”

Jasmine looked at him “Major Jasmine Somers Marine CO USS Invincible, pleased to meet you” She said and while the Lieutenant was recovering she tapped her borrowed Commbadge =/\= Somers to Den Control =/\=

=/\= Den Control online =/\= The burley voice responded.

=/\= Ready the timer, Lieutenant Smith is going to be running the course with me, he will pass it or die trying =/\= She said. As she awaited the response she saw the horrified look on the young Lieutenants face, Den Controls voice came back full of humour.

=/\= Affirmative, will have Medivac standing by. Timer will start the moment you say Major =/\=

Jasmine looked at Jimmy “You ready Jimmy?” She asked

Gulping loudly and hard he nodded.

=/\= Okay Control start in 10 seconds from close of channel =/\= She said and a double click returned to acknowledge her instruction was understood.

With that Jasmine deactivated her Commbadge and the moment the start buzzer went both began running.

In Den Control they watched Jasmine and Smith do the course.

“That Major Somers really sets a mean pace” The controller who spoke to her said.

The Colonel who was also watching and who was Jasmines Marine training Officer when she came through spoke.

“I can remember a Lieutenant Commander Somers coming here and handing me her transfer papers, while she was wearing Marine green she still showed her Fleet rank, I asked her why was she not wearing Major rank” he paused.

“How did she respond Sir?” Control asked.

“She said that she had not earned the Marine equivalent of Lieutenant Commander, but if she beet the assaults course Par time she would proudly wear the correct rank.” The Colonel responded.

“Well she must have managed the course” Control assumed.

Looking at the Master Sergeant Controller “Yes she did it well under 11 minutes, I wonder if she will beat that time” The Colonel said.

“You want to make bets Sir?” The Master Sergeant asked.

The Colonel looked at the NCO and smiled as he nodded “Put me down for 10:45 Minutes” he said.

All others watching the two runners put down different times, the Master Sergeant then spoke.

“She may have been able to beat her time if not for the newbie running with her, I will go for 11:05 Minutes” He said and saw that there was two days Holodeck privileges up for grabs. He looked at the bets all ranged from 10:40 to 11:10 Minutes, some were even the same, now all watched as the timer hit the Nine minute mark.

Down on the Assault course the two runners unaware of the betting pool continued their run; the Lieutenant was splitting his mind between thinking and doing the course.

oO The Major sets a tough pace to be sure, but she actually looks happy Oo He thought then is thoughts were broken as an out of breath Major spoke.

“Okay Jimmy last leg, I want to beat 10:48 so we will pick the pace up” She said he could only nod as their pace speeded up.

oO Is she mad a faster pace! Oh Brother Oo He thought.

Both passed the finish line and Jimmy was finding it hard to breathe, so some Medics were there with a ventilator, Jasmine still exhausted but able to speak tapped her Commbadge.

=/\= We have a very upset Colonel of your acquaintance here Major, he said 10:45 a rookie Marine said 10:40 and won =/\= control said with mirth in his voice.

=/\= Control I do not know if I should be horrified or happy that bets were taken on our time, but I am happy that I beat my old score and I would like to apologise to the Colonel and offer my condolences on his loss =/\= She said with humour in her voice. All she heard in the background was a loud grumble followed by Laughter.

=/\= The Colonel has left the building, get yourselves a shower, Control out =/\= The Controller said and closed the link.

Jasmine looked over to Jimmy the poor guy had been too pre-occupied with regaining his breath, now he had recovered a little he looked at her.

“Well Sir, what was our time?” He asked.

“We done the course in 10:40 minutes Jimmy, congratulations you passed” She said, she saw him look the course over, then back to her.

“10:40 minutes you say? And I passed, you say?” He asked Jasmine nodded and was amused as the Lieutenants eyes rolled up as he feinted; the Medics were back there in an instant.

Leaving the poor shocked Lieutenant to his own devices Jasmine entered the female showers, stripping off and untying her hair she had a nice shower.

As the shuttle hovered over the landing site, David laughed to himself as he wondered what he was getting himself in for.

"What is it sir?" Corporal Allen asked him.

"Just thinking Corporal David" replied.

"about what sir?"

"Best you don't know." he said smiling

"yes sir." allen replied with a distressed look.

"The extraction point, 1500 hours sam", David said to the pilot as the shuttle set down.

"And I'm on the klingon High Council, only a handful of people ever beat 1530, you care to make that a bet?"

"Wouldn't want to take your money, and besides, it's me," David replied as he moved toward the shuttle exit.





The valley below was dotted with a made up village and near by compund in a forested area, several watchposts stood on the nearby hills with patrols throughout the area. It was difficult to discern everything, especially their target from this distance, they still had 2 clicks to travel before they colsed the distance enough to perform their mission. David wondered why he agreed to do this. Shortly after returning to his quarters last night, he received a transmision from his fomer instructor. He had asked him to take one of his students on this course. The course was the second to last one the students had to complete before they became snipers. In this one an instructor or an appointed sniper would take a student, They were dropped of at 0600, and had until 1800 that evening to complete their mission. The objective was to travel to a fake village, observe the area and gather all available infromation on troop numbers and displacement, Identify a Major pre-assingned target, and Take him out, all without getting spotted or "killed." The exercise tested physical enduarance, shooting skills, and most important to a sniper, obervation skills, since they were primarily scouts. The second course consisted of a sniper team made up of students and lasted several days, testing their survival skill, but was mutch the same. He supposed he agreed to do it because he loved it, he couldn't explain it but out here he didn't have to deal with people, just him and the enemy, really brought his warrior side out.

45 minutes later, at 1300 they had set up an excelent vatage point that was well camoflaged overlooking the village. They had made it with only one minor mishap where the guard walked within centimeters of allen but they had miracuasly made it out, he knew the coporal was capable enough though. Everything had been observed, ranges determined, and escape routes planed. Acting as the spotter, David had his rifle nearby to deal with close-up threats while allen had a dedicated sniper rifle. "Allen we Got movment, could be what were looking for."

"Ive got them sir."

"Ive Got a possible on General Rinehard, range 2300 meters, wait for postive comfirmation." David said As Allen aquired the target. "Postive confirmation on the target, you're cleared hot, bust em." Allen Launched a perfect shot that landed dead center in the targets chest, sending him to the ground as all weapons on this exercise were set to stun. Gathering their gear, they immediately started running to the extraciton point.

"I still can't believe you did it that fast." sam the pilot said as they boarded the shuttle.

"The best time was By a Raymond Westerland, a very good friend of my family, he taught me a great deal."

"That explains it, Hey want to hit a local joint when we get back, I'm buyin'."

"sure, Last chance I'll get for a while." David said as they rocketed through the sky, Wouldn't be a bad evening after all.

It had been a day since she had the Marines allowed a day off, now as she woke she laid in bed thinking on her next tasks.

“Oh well break time over” She said and got up, got herself some breakfast and a mug of tea, she sat at her desk as she read her mail, most of it was from her parents, wanting to know if she would have time to visit.

Finishing off her breakfast and putting the plates in the reclimator she jumped into the shower, unlike on a Starship, this shower was real water not sonic, she spent at least half an hour in the shower and fifteen minutes cleaning teeth and such. Now in her regulation Starfleet undergarments she activated her Communications Panel.

Jasmine Put on some Olive drabs and combat boots, a Green undershirt, much like the Starfleet Marine uniform one, then a light Olive drab jacket that showed her Rank, name tag. Fixing her Commbadge to her top she proceeded to put her hair up in a ponytail. When ready she grabbed a padd with the latest exercise on and left her quarters.

0900 hours

Jasmine arrived at the Parade area and saw all the Marines in formation; smiling to herself she stood in front of the unit.

“Detachment stand easy” She said and all Marines returned to parade rest.

Looking them over.

“Private Terak report to Lieutenant Colonel Wesson, you will solely train to be the Detachments professional sniper, dismissed Private” She said and the Romulan Private nodded and left.

Jasmine had still not gotten used to a Romulan Starfleet Marine, but times had changed. Now looking at her Padd and calling up the next item.

“Okay today we are going to be doing a Holodeck combat exercise; you will be split up in to two groups of 61. Lieutenant Tavel will lead Unit two I will lead unit one. The basic of this practice exercise is to see how good we work as a team. Lieutenant Tavel you will take 61 Marines report to holodeck 2 I have updated some Marine training programs. It will be you and your team against a bunch of Holographic Cardassian troops. The mission is this, your team Lieutenant will insert itself into a building where you will neutralize all opponents, then rescue the VIPs they have there. You have two hours to get your combat insertion kit ready, Then I will be with you to give you an actual mission briefing. When that is done, I and my team will enter holodeck 1 and do the same mission. At the end of this exercise I will be giving you some news for the next exercise” She said.

Then she looked at Tavel.

“Lieutenant, choose 61 Marines, remember two must be combat medics and go and prepare” She said.

“Good, you are dismissed Lieutenant when you have chosen your team” Jasmine added as she watched Tavel choose his team.

When chosen he and his team left to get ready, now she turned to the remaining troops.

“Okay you guys are to do the same, you will have an extra hour to get ready, DIS… MISSED” She said and watched her team leave the field. With that she too went to get into the right gear, before giving her briefing to team two.

1000 hours – Planning Room 1

Lieutenant Tavel and his men were waiting for her to arrive, when Tavel saw Jasmine he gave an order.

“At ease people” Jasmine said and stood at the table. “Now onto the mission briefing, even though it is a training session, this is to be treated as the real thing” She said.

“Good, now this is the building you will be entering” She began bringing up a holo of the building, and arrows appeared where she pointed. “Lieutenant Tavel half of your Squad will enter here back door, ground floor. The other half will enter from the roof. Now the enemy troops in the building are dissident Cardassian’s, they are Obsidian Order troops, so your task is to go in, and as quickly as possible extract the VIP on the third floor, Any questions?” She said.

“What of the hostiles and how many enemy troops can we be expected to face Sir?” A Marine asked.

“Expendable and Substantial enemy troops, Commands interest is only in extracting the VIP” She answered, looked to Tavel. “Lieutenant your mission brief padd will have all our latest intel on this building and occupants. Now the reality bit, while we are to treat this holodeck exercise as the real thing, the program is self adapting, as in it will throw challenges and curve ball actions against you, the holo safeties have been lowered to Stun, so they can and will fire back, the enemy have been give the firing abilities of all past Expert Marksmen Marines. So be warned, Lieutenant Tavel”

David Threw himself out of bed at 0600. It wasn't exactly the most relaxing leave time he had, but it was nothing compared to his sniper training. It was once again time to resume training, and this time it was actual training missions. It would give him a real oppurtunity to examine his men in actual combat. He dressed himself and perfomed his morning exercise routine. Afterwards he ate breakfest and merely enjoyed the early morning.

The call jerked him from his distant thoughts as he took in the moutains in the distance.

Tavel Grabbed his gear and jogged over to the barracks. "Sergeant Anderson, assemble the men on the parade ground in 15 min." Waiting on the parade ground he ran the men through calestetics, and practice in hand-to-hand combat.

At 0900 Tavel spotted Major somers approaching, "Attention, Fall-in."

"I'll take squads 5 through ten, Gus Thompson as my second in command, 1st sergeant Anderson as the platoon sergeant, and Beasley and Johnson as medics. Platoon, assemble in full gear at the briefing room at 1000 hours, Thompson and Anderson and all squad leaders, your with me." He would quickly meet with his men to completely familiarize himself with his command.

OOC: fire team 4 men, squad three fire teams, and there would be about five squads in 61 men, making aobut a platoon.

An hour later, Tavel assembled the marines in the briefing room as he saw Somers approaching.

{“At ease people” Jasmine said and stood at the table. “Now onto the mission briefing, even though it is a training session, this is to be treated as the real thing” She said.}

"Which means any screw ups and you'll be doing extra training."

{“Good, now this is the building you will be entering” ... So be warned, Lieutenant Tavel”}

"Understood sir"

Tavel rapidly moved his men to the holodeck and entered. As the program began he gathered his command around him.

Pulling up a small holo Tavel explained his plan, "I have revised the plan slightly from the majors plan, the 6th and 7th squads will insert on the roof via transport after the assault begins. 6th squad and and a fireteam from the 7th will locate and rescue the hostage. The last two fireteams along with Medic Johnson lead by Anderson will provide security on the roof and act as a reserve, once the hostage is rescued, they are responsible for him until extraction. Squads 8,9, and 10 lead by Warrant officer Thompson will insert 5 clicks from the target and advance to the target. once the parimeter is secured you are to assault the building from the ground floor and tie up security forces until the mission is complete. All right lets move out."

1230 hours

David Looked over the terrain as it zoomed by while he stood at the open ramp of the transport. He had elected to take his team in by transport and rappel onto the roof. They were more technologically advanced methods, but he wanted to make sure his men were capable of functioning when transporters couldn't be used or a transport could not land. All the men checked their gear one final time. They were all armed with phaser rifles set on pulse mode and phaser 2 side arms. He gave the signal to stand up and put himself at the rear whith Johnson and Anderson at the front. He was willing to fight alongside his men but he couldn't take unecesary risks because he was responsible for the entire detatchment. His combadge beeped-

"Bulldog, This is Thomspon, we've engaged the enemy, your clear to land"

"Acknowleged," The shuttle came to rest and the Anderson gave the signal to go. At that moment though fire erupted around the shuttle and the Pvt. next to Anderson missed the rope and fell onto the rooftop screaming, "Idiot," David threw aside the men in front of him and slid down the rope slighlty behind Anderson yelling "cover me." Hitting the roof he opened fire taking a cardassian down while Anderson took out the other two. "cover the entrance to the roof," David yelled as he looked to the wounded marine, after all the marines were out the shuttle immediately took off as it was under fire. "Johnson, take of this man. Ramirez, take point." They hadn't even fully deployed yet and their was problems, but they had a mission to worry about.

a bolt streamed way to close to David's head and a man next to him went down, "Ramirez, watch that left corridor! Move up," David said as he charged forward firing his rifle. He came face to fac with a cardassian and holding his arm, thrust a knife into his eye and threw him back. Just then a fist flew into his face and knocked him down, staring into a rifle he thought he was dead when the cardassian was blown back. "Thanks Ramirez. I owe you one"

"no problem sir, this area is secure for now, two of our men and one wounded."

"send him top side." David ordered as his comm badge beeped once again. "Bulldog."

"Thompson sir, we are having trouble here, you need to hurry up."

"Acknowledged, but were only on the fourth floor and were running into heavy resistance. Tavel ou-"

"Sir," Thompson Interjected, "The hostage has been moved to a heavily guarded room on the fourth floor."

"are you sure?"

"yes sir, sending you the schematic now sir."

"Good work, Tavel out."

"Lieutenant, More cardassians are coming," Ramirez shouted They all took cover and the two sides had each other pinned.

"ramirez', Tavel called as he avoided a shot and returned fire, 'you hold them back here, I'll take a fire team and head back to the roof with anderson, we'll hit them from the roof, we'll need a route to escape through so hold this posistion with all you got. As Ramirez and his men fired a barage of shots David used the cover to retreat to the roof.

When he reached the roof he jogged over to Anderson, "we're rappelling down from here the room where the hostage is, we then set a frame charge, enter the room and neutralize the enemy. Johnson you're with us." Moveing to the side his team hooked up and moved down the wall. As they approached the window, David ordered, "set the charge, all rifles on wide angle stun, we'll take everybody down and sort the mess out afterwards."

"sir, what happens if the cardassians have the room rigged to blow sir," asked Johnson.

"Then you get flying lessons real fast,' David said as he watched the medic's expression change to worry.'Let's do it, blow the charge." A specially designed frame charge blew the wall directly out, away from the men and the hostage inside, directly afterwards David and Anderson swung in weapons blazing. Everyone in the room immediately became lifeless and flopped to the ground.

"clear all tangoes down," Anderson reported as the medic rushed to the hostage, "he's fine sir."

"Alright, carry him and let's get out of here," Just as he moved to the door a cardassian rushed out to kill the hostage when David whipped a tomahawk into his neck. "I wish those ugly suckers would stop doing that."

"agreed,' anderson seconded, 'Make sure their all restrained and let's move."

"all right keep it tight people," David said as they fluidly moved as a unit into and through the corridor.

David came near rameriez's posistion and set up a crossfire that wiped out the rest of the resistance alowing them to link up. "Thompson, This is Bulldog, move to extraction point delta, we have the package and are moving to evac."


"Understood sir, we're pulling back now." Moving quickly they crossed a pocket of resistance, in the ensuing firefight Ramirez was wounded, and Anderson slung him over his shoulder and began running along with everybody else when the cardassians from the fight below moved upstairs. reaching the roof they bolted for the transport as Tevel and another marine covered them. An explosion knocked David over and injured his leg. The marine began dragging him as they both returned fire killing several cardassians. The marine above him went down. A hail of return fire from behind him sent a number of cardassians sprawling and pinned the rest down. Recovering enough to walk David returned raced for the shuttle somehow carrying the fallen Marine. With everyone aboard the shuttle, it streaked into the sky. At that point the Sim shut down. Turning to Anderson he said, "looks like we need more CQB practice."

"Definately, and sir," he said as he glanced at the marine who had missed the rope.

"he's all yours after debriefing, All right everyone in the briefing room in ten minutes." It hadn't necesarily been a bad mission, but it did have marginal room for improvment.

Jasmine arrived in the adjacent holodeck a moment later and pulled here troops to the map table, activating the three-dimensional hologram.

“You see this building; well it is the one that we will be attacking. Now we will split into two teams, thirty men to each team” She looks at another officer. “Lieutenant Rodriguez you will take 30 men and go in from the bottom, remember to takeout the ground sentries too. My team will go in via the roof” She said as two coloured blips appeared and moved in the manner she was speaking of.

As she paused one of her Marines asked some questions.

“Who or what are the hostiles Sir?” Lieutenant Rodriguez asked “and what type of flexibility as far as the hostiles are concerned, do we have?” He finished.

“Good questions, first off the hostiles are Obsidian Order; well a renegade branch and they have a Captured VIP on the fifth floor. We will have to extract the VIP safely, as for flexibility the targets are expendable, this is a take no prisoners scenario people, remember that. Our main objective is to extract the VIP at this location” She said activating the holo so the red dot that was the VIP blinked. “Marine High Commands only concern is extracting the prisoner safely.

“What type of arms can we expect to face Major?” Another Marine asked.

Looking at her and inhaling “small arms mostly, but expect some heavier weapons guarding internal entry points. This Scenario may be a hologram and will be treated as the real thing, but remember this men the program has a chaos algorithm in it; it will throw curve balls and give you unexpected problems. So its get in quickly as possible and extract the VIP, there is another thing, the safeties have been lowered, so the returning fire will stun you unconscious” Jasmine said.

“Oh great” one of the Marines responded.

Jasmine only smiled “right into the holodeck we move out in 10 minutes, go, go, go” She said.

Holodeck – Insertion and Extraction Simulation

After a stealth shuttle albeit a holographic one takes them to the building and lands. The shuttle was a standard troops shuttle painted black, it had no warp capabilities, only impulse, so the tell tale Nacelles were not present, it was an accurate representation of a Spec Ops Shuttle. Now as it touched down in the field across from the building after dropping Rodriguez and his team at the back of the building. Jasmine's team disembarks and make their way to the front of the building, where they hunker down and wait on Rodriguez and his team, eventually Lieutenant Rodriguez and his team make it up onto the roof.

“Shelly can you block all sensors and motion detectors without them knowing they are down?” He ask Corporal Tom Shelly his units Marine technician.

“Yes Sir” he replied and got to work.

While Rodriguez was waiting, he contacted his team leader.

=/\=Team Beta to Team Alpha you will be able to enter in=/\= He paused as Shelly held up both hands and gave a puzzled look. =/\= amend that we will let you know when it is safe, Team two out =/\= He said closing the link.

All the Marines wore sub dermal communications so only they could hear another Marine elsewhere.

Down on the ground in the shadows waiting Jasmine comically shook her head at the Lieutenants news “Think we need to give Shelly more training in the technical area” She said with a smile, her team giggled a little.

Suddenly her sub dermal communications came to life.

=/\= Team Beta leader to Team Alpha Leader, we can enter =/\= Rodriguez said.

=/\= Confirmed, clear the upper levels, we will clear the lower and meet on the floor between them before striking =/\= Jasmine said and got a double tap from Rodriguez before the line closed.

Rooftop – Target Building

Rodriguez and his team enter and while in the atrium of the building they encountered no one, but as they went silently down to the next floor, there was a guard at each end of the corridor. All Marines had TR-116-Delta model rifles, these were the same in every aspect as the standard TR-116 rifles, the only differences were the noise suppression nozzles on the end of their rifles and that the weapons were matte black not the traditional Starfleet colour and they were a little shorter. Now one Marine aimed down the left and one down on the right. Then as one both fired and both guards simultaneously collapsed dead to the floor.

Rodriguez using hand signals directed his Marines to split into two groups and take a Corridor, this they did, the corridor to the right led to a dead end with no further trouble that team returned to their team leader, who’s group were in the shadows looking towards a group of 10 Obsidian Order troops. Rodriguez was aware of the other team arriving and he signalled them to approach quietly, as all his team were now back together he turned to face them.

“Suggestions?” he asked quietly.

“Flash grenades, we have some of the latest ones from Starfleet R+D, they managed to fit them with noise suppression systems, without removing their explosive yield” Master Gunnery Sergeant Revello suggested.

Looking at his SNCO with surprise at such a simple idea, “Do it, okay men when they are blinded take them out and quick, one shot one kill understand” Rodriguez said with a mirthless smile and got nods from his team as two of them pulled out the new Flash grenades and primed them and threw them into the Cardassian’s.

The ten Cardassian’s were startled as two objects dropped around them, looking puzzled at each other as they made ready their weapons, the grenades went off.

“Argh!” They all exclaimed as their weapons dropped as they covered their light damaged eyes.

Now Rodriguez’s team takes them out, when there were no Cardassian’s left alive they moved in, Corporal Shelly takes a look at the control station and looks at the 2nd Lieutenant with a big smile.

“You know Shelly when you smile like that it gives me the creeps” Revello said.

Looking all innocents “Really, well we have the groups entire data base here” Shelly said.

“Well download it, then wipe the memory” Rodriguez said.

Shelly nodded and got to work while the rest of the team made the area secure. While he was waiting, Rodriguez activated his Comms.

=/\= Mexican to Red, we have the groups database, we are downloading it then wiping the memory, before advancing =/\= He said.

Ground – Target building

When the word came for them to enter, Jasmine’s team equipped with the same weapons crept up to the guards posted at the door; two of the Marines pulled out their Combat knives and put their hands over the Cardassian’s mouths as they stuck the blades into the Cardassian hearts. With the front door cleared Team Alpha entered, as expected there were more on the ground, so affixing oxygen masks over their faces, Jasmine’s team throw in each room cyanide canisters, it was a modified version of the gas, it was concentrated so it would disperse quicker, any Cardassian’s not in the offices were silently shot, these were the lucky ones, those who were gassed were in agony for 2 seconds before dying. Just to be sure the modified cyanide gas had gone Jasmine’s team threw in some Neutralizing canisters; their Medic used his tricorder to scan and declared it safe. All removed their masks as they continued up to the Next level.

First Floor – Fourth Floor

Jasmines team made it to the first floor and quickly secured it as no one was there, moving up to the next level. Strangely enough it was not until the stairway to the fifth level was blocked by a well emplaced defence point, moving back down and on to the fourth floor Jasmine contacts Lieutenant Rodriguez.

Sixth Floor

Lieutenant Rodriguez and his team had a similar success as Jasmine’s team that was until they tried to get onto the fifth floor. So like the other team they retreated, they had only just gotten to a safe area when his sub-dermal communications went off.

Fourth Floor

Jasmine was thinking over on such an idea, and came to a decision.

=/\= Agreed, have your team apply breather masks =/\= She said and got a double click as an acknowledgement.

Both teams on the fourth and Sixth floors put breathers on and threw their gas grenades, they heard choking and then dull thuds as bodied fell to the floor.

Fifth Floor

Both teams entered the Fifth floor from different stairwells, all was progressing smoothly when all hell broke loose. The remaining guards opened fire on both teams, a couple of Marines went down. But the Marines had numbers and after sustaining a few more casualties they cleared the floor. After location the VIP the Medics checked him over. Now Jasmine spoke to her Team two leader.

“Lieutenant, detail some men to carry our casualties out”

“But Sir, they would be dead weight and slow us down” Rodriguez said.

Standing an inch from his face “We leave no one behind Lieutenant. NO ONE in my Marine unit gets left behind, not even the dead, you understand?” She asked.

Rodriguez surprised by the Majors outburst only nodded, then got to work detailing some Marines to collect their dead comrades.

Thirty minutes later the Medics having confirmed that the VIP was fit enough to travel under his own power escorted him out via the stairs. The Marines not carrying bodies or escorting the VIP advanced down the stairs carefully, ironically there were a few survivors on the lower floors, who quickly met their end.

“Demolitions team go down to the cellar and plant some explosives on this buildings foundations, then meet us back at the Insertion shuttle” Jasmine said as they reached the ground floor.

“Yes Sir” The Demo team responded and went down another level.

Jasmine and both teams exited the building and headed back to the shuttle, secured the dead and the VIP. Two sentries first heard movements then saw the Demo team arrive. All quickly loading on the shuttle, the pilot lifts off as the building explodes.

“I think we used a bit too much explosives” One of the Demolitions marines commented.

Looking at the Roan Candle flame of the exploding building, Jasmine turns to the marine “Ya think!” She said with a smile.

Holodeck 2

Suddenly the program ended, standing up she looks around, the holo VIP had vanished too.

“Okay those who were unfortunate to get shot, shame on you, but ratio is within norms” Jasmine said then tapped her Commbadge. =/\= Major Somers to Lieutenant Tavel =/\=

Tavel straightened himself out and breathed deeply as he stood in front of the office door. He wondered what the major's evaluation of his mission would be, and what she had in store next. There was only on way to find out as he moved to the door.

It was Tavel, he entered and smartly saluted, she returned the Salute.

“Please have a seat Lieutenant, Can I offer you something to drink?” She asked.

“I am guessing that you are curious as to why I called you here?” She said.

“Well I need your assessment on how your team done and in brief your plan of action. You see when we return to the Invincible I want to make twelve teams of nine Marines. Each team will consist of the following, One Team leader, One 2IC, two Medics Three Demo and two rifle specialists. Now theses teams will have annual exercises on the holodeck, this will be done in rotation, so the ships Captain has at least four Specialist teams he can use if required.”

“The rest of the Marines who are not chosen will assist in ship security; they will also act as replacements, should any of us fall ill. Anyways, back to the team assessment and deconstruction of our teams actions, you start” She said.
