I'll be calling a meeting to devise a way to save the Captain soon but I'd like to see some posts from the other crew first.

Here's the setting:

Alright, we should really find out what the sensors will discover... They can't just be in a perpetual state of scanning... Are they being jammed? Do they find flat nothing?

Also, from my years of watching Star Trek there are possibilities with command... I'm play Darco as a Lt. Commander, in Star Trek TNG when Troi was a Lt. Commander she had to pass a Command test and after that she became a Commander, given that Darco is already a Command officer, I assume he has already passed that test in some way.

Additionally, when the Captain left a Command officer in charge (such as Geordi in TNG when they fought the automated weapons system) he retained command even with the fact that the chief engineer was a higher rank.

This situation is different but it is plausible that a Command officer would trump the Chief Engineer in the chain of command. I so far have not found a parallel in the US or UK military to draw from either.

We also should decide that if Clarke is busy in RL, we could have her abducted as well but we should not just be endlessly searching for her either. She could have an unrelated accident as well, she could be found and placed in Sickbay unconscious.

As a GM/Mod of games, that is what I would do with her until she can respond, have her end up in Sickbay unconscious where it is unwise to bring her around at first. That way she can pick up right where she left off when she comes back and can play. The only other option, reasonably, is to have a mod play her for a time until she can return.

Just some questions... Concerns...

In short... Starfleet should respond with something, what do sensors say, where is the XO, and how long can Waterhous' patient live without getting to a Starbase?

I don't mean to be a pain in the butt, if I am being that, just let me know.

I'll add my voice to the clamour for information from our GM, but I should caution that we don't unnecessarily leave people behind, give Josh and Jeff a reasonable time to post.

As to command - In our case Seetar is the 2nd officer and so is higher in the command chain despite being the engineer, I think Data is in TNG, where as Scotty was in TOS. He has a specific place in the chain over and above his rank.

It does however make sense for a junior officer on the bridge to be calling the shots even if more senior specialists are else where doing their thing, Starfleet after all isn't purely military and is often much more flexible with ranks and authority.

I think the real world parallel you are looking for is probably that of "Line Officers" navies tend to have a general officer group "Line" or "Executive" who work in strict order of rank and are eligible for command. Once modern Navies merged in all their specialists and gave them officer ranks this created a group of officers "Staff" who hold rank but don't exercise command authority - unless they do some form of command course (a la Troi) - this most often applies to medical and "backroom" personnel like paymasters, training instructors and so on, it did at one point apply to engineers. In the modern navy as far as I know only medical staff are still considered in-eligible for command - everyone else takes watch officer training.

At Least I simmed Somers in the correct fashion by deferring to Darco by saying what she did, hence why she sat at Tactical.

Somers may have some Command Training and plenty of Bridge Training, but she is a Marine now and not Tactical Officer. So if Cousland asks Somers to leave the bridge, she will do so. But I hope he remembers IC that Somers is a fully Trained Tactical Bridge Officer, so *crosses fingers* that Cousland remembers this IC.

Does SB185 exist somewhere already in Task Force Lore or do we just assume it's a big station and get on with it? Don't wanna start making stuff up if it's already been outlined by someone somewhere.

Also I was hoping this could become a Perminent place on SB 185, then perhaps we can begin putting SB185 on the BF Fleet Database. It would make it easier referral to information.
