USS Invinicble - Portal Jumper Mission Briefing (Conference room JP)

Commander Matthew Archenon, Commanding Officer of the USS Invincible, stepped into the Invincible's main conference room. The room was decorated with a large wood encrusted table, and he began setting PADDs at each of the respective seats, one for each of the department heads. He looked to the clock in the left hand corner of the room. "15 minutes to 3:00... the senior staff should be arriving soon..." Matt set about preparing the overhead projector to show the mission specifications and then waited anxiously for the meeting to begin.

Josh stepped inside the conference room. He knew he was a few minutes early and saw Commander Archenon setting down PADDs and preparing for the meeting. "Hello, Commander," he called, announcing his presence, and then took a seat towards the head of the table as the Second Officer.

'So that's what these look like on the inside.' Jeffery thought to himself rather sarcastically upon entering the conference room.

He'd been afforded the opportunity before to sit at a conference table within the lounge of the Tiburon, but not for meetings as high class as a senior briefing. Typically it would be a staff meeting being conducted by his department head, Lieutenant Vale at the time. Jeffery had developed some feelings for her a few months back, but had never acted on them due to her being his superior officer. Last thing he wanted was to get entangled in a relationship that complicated his career.

Jeffery took a seat about midway down the table, taking note that the captain and another yellow collar, a lieutenant, had taken their own seats already. A slight feeling of embarrassment came over Jeffery, the realization that he hadn't committed all the senior staff's names to memory. For the time being, he figured he'd keep silent and attempt to passively acquire them as time went on over the course of the meeting. A little bit of homework was duly needed after that.

Sarah looked at the crewman for a moment, "And, that is why you keep your rank insignia in the proper place Crewman." She seen his shock before the Bajoran smiled, "Now return to your duties Crewman Pullman!" Her voice stern but not overbearing as she turned and walked inside the conference room, and looked at the other officers that had appeared. She pulled down her uniform and took her seat directly next to the Commanding Officer. "Commander!" She stated.

Darco was a bit later than he wanted to be. He saw the XO walk in and the doors slide shut before his presence was close enough to set them off again and they slid open once more.

He entered the room confidently having spent quite a bit of time organizing his department. Flight officers were a jumpy group overall but he hadn't had any issues with anyone yet. He nodded a hello to people and smiled as he took his seat and waited setting his PADD on the table in front of him.

Matt took his place at the head of the table, choosing to stand. He glanced around and saw that most of the senior staff had gathered. "Ladies and gentlemen, we're ready to begin, I believe." Matt took a deep breath before the start of the briefing. "The Invincible is ready to take on her first mission. Task Force 38's duty is the Delta Exploration Initiative. We are being sent into the Delta Quadrant."

Matt turned around and picked up a remote. He pressed a button and a map of the Delta quadrant was generated on the front board. "This is Starfleet's main base in the Delta Quadrant. As you can see, 38 has ships spread out across the Quadrant, with not many around our HQ. It was never thought that it would grow to be a target in a time of relative peace with the Klingons and Romulans. Very few species in the DQ have the military strength to pose a threat against our ships, but..." He took a laser pointer from his desk.

He ran it around a small blip on the screen, dangerously close to the Starfleet base. "This is a Borg cube. 38 has not had any ships able to be sent in to check the status of this ship in their vicinity but the Borg pose a huge threat to our base and the Alpha quadrant. Our mission is to investigate this stationary Borg cube and take precautionary measures against an attack; if stable an away team may be sent in but we will not do without right cause." He looked around the faces of his senior staff, gauging reactions. It was a large and dangerous task for a shakedown mission but Starfleet was spread among many fronts.

"Tactical and Security will need to be on alert at all times. Red alert will be maintained after we have cleared Delta HQ. Engineering, we'll need shields and full power engines to be ready at all times. Helm, our best pilots and navigators need to be ready at all times. Clarke, make sure all officers are at full alerts at all times. I don't want anything to go wrong that doesn't have too." Matt paused.

"Questions, comments, concerns?"

"Just us? Wouldn't it be more prudent to send out maybe a few more?" Jeffery asked, his concern accentuated by his forward posture, both his arms resting on the table palms up.

Most encounters with the Borg that he could remember revolved around fleet engagements. Whenever single starship came into contact with Borg vessels, withdrawal or sheer avoidance was the called up course of action. That didn't mean that all engagements with the Borg had been defeats. Indeed, recent history had a few examples of Starfleet's ability to fight the Borg. Once in 2372 where a cube had been destroyed over Earth, and then there were the documented encounters that Voyager had during her time in the Delta Quadrant before their return almost a decade ago.

Matt nodded at him. He was sure the Lieutenant had voiced a concern on most of their minds. "The job itself may sound a little deceiving; we are performing reconassiance. We won't be moving anywhere near weapons range unless we have good reason too."

The question was one he had tried to address to Command but they had not listened. The Admiralty seemed to think the crew of the Invincible actually was, and Matt prayed they were.

OOC: Finish up with any questions or concerns in the next day or two; our official mission will be launched sometime over the weekend. Until then feel free to back post and then we will be underway!

Once Matt had finished what he had been saying she looked around towards the others, "If a boarding party is necessary we will be using a small tactical strike team. With full gear, I will be leading the team on the borg cube." She turned to Matt, "Sorry Commander, but I do believe in the Executive Officer leading away missions for the safety of the Commanding Officer."

"Mister Cousland I would like you to draw up a plan of infiltration with multiple means of escape, and have it on my desk for approval from myself and Commander Archenon by the time we enter the system in question."

'An infiltration plan?'

"Aye, sir." Jeffery responded.

Not even a day in, and already Jeffery was being asked for such things. Yes, he was placed in the position he was now because of the confidence that his superiors prior had for him. Just felt a bit odd to be asked to 'draw up infiltration plans.'

'I'm a security and tactical chief, not a marine.' he thought to himself as he quietly sat, his hands folded on the table.
